Where did Ridgefield’s surplus go?
Here are the facts, straight from the borough’s own budgets.
From 2020 through 2025, Democrats controlled the Ridgefield council. During those years, the borough used more and more of its surplus to plug the budget, climbing from $1.8 million in 2020 to a peak of $3.18 million in both 2024 and 2025. In just those last two years, the surplus fund dropped by 46%.
So who was in charge?
2020–2023: Democrats in full control.
2024: Gino Ramundo and Sarah Kim joined the council. There were only two of us, and Democrats were still in control.
2025: Mohamed Jaafar joined us. That made three, and Democrats still held the majority.
2026: Chris Martucci joined, and for the first time we had the majority.
The result? In our first budget with a majority, the amount of surplus used went DOWN, because we didn’t allow the waste to continue.
Yes, the 2026 levy went up. When the cushion has been drained, the bill comes due. We’re making the tough, responsible decisions to fix it, and we’re starting to turn Ridgefield around.
Let’s keep the progress moving forward. Re-elect Ramundo & Kim on Tuesday, November 3rd.
Early voting is open through Sunday, Nov. 1 at the Jack Alter Community Center in Fort Lee.
